Crazy Dots

The craziest card I ever made:

View the card and see the supplies I used here, at my gallery: Crazy Dots.

I was browsing though a copy of Creating Keepsakes magazine and I saw a nifty scrapbook page made by a woman in Australia. Having been there myself, I was familiar with this sort of Aboriginal art (my mom brought some how for her living room). There was also a card with big, happy flowers on it that looked like some flowers I had in my own stamp collection, so I decided to give this technique a try. Here's how it's done.

The small dots are little spots of acrylic paint. The magazine suggested using the tip of an embossing stylus (used for Dry Embossing, see here for more information: What is Dry Embossing?) to lay them down on your cardstock. I would figure that the blunt end of a paint brush would work as well if you don't have a stylus in your tool kit.

So I put some acrylic paint on a piece of scrap paper (just a drop or two of paint--not much is needed) and dipped the tip of my stylus into the paint. You can make about three dots for every dip. I began by outlining each flower one at a time until I had outlined each one about three times. I also put some paint dots in the center of each flower to unify the images. The paint seemed to dry rather quickly, which was good--I didn't end up smudging any of it.

This certainly is one funky card that I don't see myself parting with anytime soon! I hope you enjoy tring this out for yourself.

I really like how this card looks. I'm not sure I'd have the patience for all those dots but it looks great.

I should have mentioned that it didn't take as much time as I thought it might. Maybe a good fifteen minutes? Not too bad...

Wait until I post about making your own plaid...oy! ;)
